Emotions

Posted on Friday 25 April 2008

We all struggle with emotions. Some people suppress them, others need to cry to let it all out, while others just try to work through them as they happen.

As long as you are happy with the way you deal with your emotions, then that is great. The only exception would be with suppression. The reason is that you keep suppressing and supressing, till one day the smallest thing would just be too much to handle and it all comes out. It can be much harder to handle then. So do find a way to deal with your emotions whether by talking about it, writing a journal or even just having a good cry!

Breast Size

Posted on Tuesday 8 April 2008

You would be surprised at how many people are unhappy with their breast size. It all stems from the media and their idea of perfect. If the media had their way, We would all be size 00, tall leggy blondes with pert perfect breasts in a size 34DD.

Breast size really can range from completely flat chested to back achingly big. No matter what size someone is, their breasts will fall into one of the categories of too big / too small / too droopy / too unnatural / etc.

In fact most breasts are not even equally sized. Often the difference is minimal but sometimes the difference could be a couple of cup sizes or more.

The truth is that nature intended breasts for feeding infants, and no matter what natural size you are… you will be able to breast feed. Breasts also keep changing over time. And as for the talk of men prefering bigger breasts to small ones… that is all it is… talk. Men are simply happy with breasts, no matter the size.

It is not easy to learn to love our bodies with all the media portrays but by learning to accept our bodies and learning to love our bodies, it will make us enjoy our bodies more. It will in turn lead us to leading a happier life.

Overweight

Posted on Sunday 10 February 2008

“I have been overweight as long as I can remember. But now I am worried about my health. What can I do?”

There are several stages of being overweight and each stage means different levels of actions should be taken. This would be dependant on your BMI - Body Mass Index. If you BMI is slight above average, the first and most basic steps would be to eat healthily and try to include some exercise.

If you feel you need to lose more than a couple of kilos, you might want to consult your doctor who might be able to recommend more drastic treatment such as medication, gastric banding or liposuction!

Do you know?

Posted on Monday 4 February 2008

Do you know when to walk away? Do you know when to let go? Do you know how to say NO?

More often than not we do not know when to walk away or when to let go or when to say No. We often need to take a step back, review the situation and think about what to do next. Sometimes it might be the hardest thing to do, but knowing you need to take a step in a different direction is already a first step which means you are on your way already.

Alienated

Posted on Tuesday 29 January 2008

“I keep hearing voices and I am convinced that there are aliens. My friends laugh at me and say there is no such thing but I know that I hear them and so I know they are there. How can I prove them to my friends?”

I am not going into whether or not there are aliens as honestly I do not know the answer. But if you are hearing voices, you might need to get checked out with your Doctor. Hearing voices may be a symptom of schizophrenia. I am not saying that you are schizophrenic, but you might want to rule it out with your GP. If you are suffering from schizophrenia, your doctor may be able to prescribe some tablets to deal with your illness.

Betting

Posted on Monday 28 January 2008

This post is actually sponsored by betfair but this post is my personal opinion and not a promotional message.

Betting can often be a problem if it gets out of hand. And although there are groups such as gambler anonymous, the point is to not arrive into the situation where you do become a compulsive gambler. Gambling problems are never an easy issue to broach, but if not dealt with can arise into very serious serious problems such as huge financial debts, lies, family problems and stress related issues.

This does not go to say that you should not gamble. After all I seriously believe in a democratic society and freedom of choice. After all a quick flutter can raise your heart rate and give you a sense of excitement. It can even give you a really nice feel good feeling, that can actually even be good for you.

Even simply buying a lottery ticket is gambling, yet most people who buy a ticket are buying a dream. At least for until the draw, you can think “If I win… I will pay my bills, buy a house, get that new gadget, take a round the world holiday, etc !”

The key to gambling is moderation. Good Luck!

Insurance

Posted on Wednesday 23 January 2008

“My son is driving my car with a learner licence and therefore no insurance. I am worried that he will get caught and go to prison. How can I stop him?”

As you are aware, it is illegal to drive without both a licence and without insurance. On top of which, not only does your son stand a chance of getting a fine and a possible jail sentence but you also run the risk of having your car seized by the police and crushed. That would soon put a stop to his driving but it would also stop your driving.

Do explain the situation to your son as it can affect the rest of his life. You can always offer him an incentive to get his licence like paying for his insurance. You can easily get Discount Car Insurance to cover him. Last but not least, do hide your keys from him to make sure he does not take your car. After all, your car is your responsibility!

Alcohol

Posted on Wednesday 23 January 2008

“I enjoy a couple of glasses of wine at night. My friends have said I am an alcoholic. How can I prove to them I am not. I only drink a couple of glasses at night!”

We often think of alcoholics as constant drunks, people who start drinking from the moment they wake up. Sadly this is just an extreme case of alcoholism. Being an alcoholic is about dependency on drink. It often starts with a must have drink every night and then proceeds to lunch and before you know it are dependant on alcohol.

I cannot tell your friends that you are not an alcoholic. But I would suggest that you take a look at your drinking situation. Are you drinking every night. Can you go a couple of nights without any wine? Can you try to cut down to perhaps a couple of drinks at weekends? If you have any difficulty with cutting down, then perhaps you do have an alcohol problem. Like with most problems, it will be wise to seek appropriate help. Joining a club like the AA (alcoholics anonymous) would be a first step to admitting you have a problem. If you still feel that you do not have such a problem, do have a chat with your nurse or GP who may be able to offer you further insight and examine how much of a problem / issue you really do have.

By taking these steps, you will also be helping reassuring your friends, who incidentally seem to be good friends.

What to do?

Posted on Wednesday 23 January 2008

“My husband wants me to get him National Final Rodeo tickets for his birthday, and he wants me to go with him. I am not sure that I want to go. Should I just buy him something else?”

I am not going to say what you should do and what you should not do. What I am going to do is give you some points to ponder and some other possible options. The choice will be up to you.

First of all, just buying him another gift without consulting him, seems a bit disrespectful. He is also likely to be very disappointed if he got a different gift especially if it is something which does not appeal to him.

Have you considered getting him a couple of tickets and suggesting he takes a friend who will appreciate it instead of you?

Try to speak to him and tell him how you feel. You might be surprised what other options he might come up with.

Last but not least, consider going with him. Perhaps he can return the favour and go with you somewhere he is not keen to go eg the ballet or theatre or that Spice Girls concert! It is a win win situation!

Lawsuit

Posted on Friday 4 January 2008

“I was in a shop and ended up getting hurt. I cannot do much till I get better and I am feeling depressed. I was told that I could sue them and get some money.”

You could get try to go to court and get Commercial Lawsuit Finance but I am not the best person to speak to. You should ideally speak to a lawyer. However, you should be aware that even if you are awarded a sum of money this might not make any difference to how you are feeling. You might wish to mention it to your lawyers, as they may be able to organise finance to fund some therapy dealing with your depression.
